| ***Chapter 21***
Amines are both poor acids and moderately good bases.
Therefore:
1. The conjugate bases, or amides, are very strongly basic (however, not as strong as alkoxides). Amides used to deprotonate alcohols.
2. The conjugate acids, or ammonium salts, are weakly acidic (they're more acidic than water and alcohol, but less acidic than carboxylic acid).
------ ***Chapter 24***
Carbohydrates
Acetal ---> non reducing ---> no ring opening ---> no interconversion ---> no mutarotation ---> negative results for both Fehling's and Tollen's tests.
Fehlings:
Aldoses ---> aldonic acid
Tollen's:
Ketoses ---> dicarbonyl

| Hello again - Xanga, fellow bloggers, and internet audience! It's been a while; about 4 years, I think. And during my hiatus, the times have changed greatly: Globally, nationally, locally, and personally. What follows is a very brief summary of a few highlights that have occurred since my last post. I am pretty sure that every single change worth mentioning will stay "worth-mentioning," as after sometime of writing I get really lazy and start to fall off. Alright, this VHS has finished rewinding, and now it is the time to press play. Enjoy, don't forget the popcorn and your Stormtropper costumes. Vanamos a empezar.
Looking back at my blogs from '03 and '04, I have realized how much I've grown and matured. Even my roommates trip about that. I used to speak like a little teeny bopper - like an annoying mall rat! I used to type like a middle school wanksta! And that was only 4 years ago? "Daym son, isht be str8t cr8zy fosho." Now, I'm a junior at UCSD, majoring in B.S. Biochemistry and Cell Biology, and who is at the moment Pre-Med. Consequently, I've been busy with Upper Div classes and extra curriculars - no time for bopper talk.
I also realized how superficial I was. Thank god I've drifted far from that path. I think that the majority of my old posts spoke of shoes and designer street wear. All Bathing Ape and Billionaire Boys Club. It's fine to be into all that, but I've learned that a person must have balance in his or her life. A little too much of this, or a little too much of that, can tip you off the high wire and have some consequences - it's like crashing straight into the pavement, and you sure as hell aren't Neo Anderson.
Now we come to the global part of this discussion. Guess what Xanga, we're still over there in the Middle East! I've heard some people say that it was better when Saddam was there because at least there was some sort of stability. Russia attacked Georgia. When I first heard about that I was thinking Cold War II, which was pretty frightening. We got Darfur and genocide, which according to Wiki is about Gas and Money - c.r.e.a.m. Also, the world is environmentally screwed if mankind doesn't somehow pull it together.
Nationally. Bush is gone, and Obama is in. Yes! We! Can! The economy isn't doing too well, but things will get better. On another note, the global community really approves of Obama. Gas prices are finally starting to drop.
As you can see, I'm starting to fall off with this writing thing. The last thing I'm going to write about: the 08 roomies. They are going to play basketball right now, the annual/monthly suite/apartment games. And nope I still do not play basketball. Good luck to 4538 - sorry Zodiac. Andrew Hong: he bought a PS3, told me the other night that he's got some regrets of shelling out the money for it, but just wait until the other games come out. Besides, Godfather night would never have been the same without such a great viewing apparatus. Matt Tan: he bought an XBox 360. Gears baby. And, I guess Madden. When I last played I lost but played decently. Loves 2nd Life as much as Dwight Kurt Schrute. Zachary Kyle Quiza: like what Andrew says, darth maul kicks to the knees, Booyakasha, and Deaaatthh! Additionally, a-kill-lees tendon strikes, and throat strikes. Finally, we have one James Yoon: the other korean, one of Matt's good friends. Girls say he looks fragile. But he's a beast to the gym - no homo.
So in a nutshell we have a very brief synopsis of the past 4 years. I miss you Xanga. I wonder when my own Holly will work at my orifice.
